AETREX ORTHOTICS
Aetrex was founded in 1946 and has spent nearly 80 years focused on one thing: understanding how feet actually work before designing anything to support them. What sets the brand apart from a typical insole company is the sheer scale of real foot data behind every product. Since introducing pressure-plate foot scanning technology (called iStep) to retail in 2002, Aetrex has placed over 12,000 scanners worldwide and performed more than 50 million individual foot scans. Every orthotic in this collection is engineered using insights pulled from that dataset, not a generic mold based on average foot dimensions.

From Lynco to Aetrex Orthotics
This line was originally sold under the name Lynco, a biomechanical support system that became one of the most trusted names in the orthotics industry, recommended by doctors and pedorthists and sold in the millions before Aetrex retired the Lynco name and folded it fully into the Aetrex Orthotics brand. The underlying engineering, strategically placed arch support paired with pressure-distributing cushioning, carried over directly. If a product listing or older packaging still references Lynco, it's the same system under Aetrex's current branding.
Built From Real Foot Scan Data, Not Averages
Standard insoles are shaped from a flat, generic pattern that assumes every foot in a given size is roughly the same. Aetrex's orthotics are built around Signature Arch Support, contoured and positioned using data from actual scanned feet, which is why the arch placement tends to align more precisely with real pressure points than a mass-produced insert. The goal isn't just softness, it's correcting alignment through the foot, knees, hips, and lower back by addressing where pressure builds up during walking or standing.
Who These Orthotics Are Actually Built For
Aetrex markets this line around specific, diagnosable discomfort rather than general foot fatigue: plantar fasciitis, heel pain, arch pain, and metatarsalgia in particular. In practice, that means the collection is used heavily by nurses, teachers, retail workers, and anyone else spending long stretches standing or walking on hard flooring, as well as people managing flat feet or overpronation who need more structured correction than a soft-cushioned insole provides.
Four Categories, Each Solving a Different Problem
Casual Comfort is built for daily wear in regular shoes, adding structured support without the bulk of a performance insert, ideal for swapping into everyday sneakers or flats.
Compete orthotics are designed for active lifestyles and injury prevention, with more responsive cushioning built to handle the repeated impact of running or extended walking rather than standing still.
Fashion orthotics are shaped specifically to fit into narrower, heeled footwear, solving the problem of getting real arch support into a shoe style that normally can't accommodate a standard insert, useful alongside our heels and wedges collection.
Memory Foam trades some of the firmer structured support for plush IQ150 memory foam and AeroCell polyurethane cushioning, a softer option for anyone who finds the standard posted orthotics too rigid.
Posted and Metatarsal Support Options
Each category comes in standard, posted, and metatarsal support versions. A posted orthotic adds a wedge specifically to correct pronation or supination during the gait cycle, while metatarsal support adds a pad under the ball of the foot to relieve forefoot pressure. These aren't interchangeable, choosing the wrong one for a given issue can leave the actual pain point unaddressed, so matching the version to where the discomfort shows up matters more than picking based on price or cushioning feel alone.
A Few Things Worth Knowing
-
Metatarsal support versions target forefoot pain specifically, not general arch discomfort, worth confirming where the pain actually is before choosing
-
Posted orthotics correct for gait-related issues like overpronation, a podiatrist's input helps narrow down which posting direction is right
